This topic outlines the eBay item condition ID and name values, including the condition definitions, display names, and eBay category support.

Condition Definitions

Numeric condition IDs are used consistently for similar item conditions across all marketplaces and categories. For example, 1000 is the numeric ID that is always used for brand new items in their original retail packaging (or equivalent).

Condition display names and the subset of supported conditions can vary in different categories. Refer to Condition Display Names by Category for additional information.

The following sections provide information about each item condition.

Note: Condition ID values are returned by the getItemConditionPolicies call of the Metadata API. However, the createOrReplaceInventoryItem call of the Inventory API uses text-based enumeration values. The corresponding ConditionEnum values are included for each numeric Condition ID value.

Condition ID 1000

Condition Name: New

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: NEW

Description: A brand-new, unused, unopened, unworn, undamaged item. Most categories support this condition (as long as condition is an applicable concept).

Condition ID 1500

Condition Names:

  • New other (see details)
  • New without tags
  • Open box

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: NEW_OTHER

Description: A brand-new new, unused item with no signs of wear. Packaging may be missing or opened. The item may be a factory second or have defects.

Condition ID 1750

Condition Name: New with defects

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: NEW_WITH_DEFECTS

Description: A brand-new, unused, and unworn item. The item may have cosmetic defects, and/or may contain mismarked tags (e.g., incorrect size tags from the manufacturer). Packaging may be missing or opened. The item may be a new factory second or irregular.

Condition ID 2000

Condition Name: Certified - Refurbished

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: CERTIFIED_REFURBISHED

Description: The item is in a pristine, like-new condition. It has been professionally inspected, cleaned, and refurbished by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor to meet manufacturer specifications. The item will be in new packaging with original or new accessories.

Note: Sellers must go through an application and qualification process to become eligible to list with the 'Certified - Refurbished' item condition. Any seller that is interested in eligibility requirements should see the Certified refurbished program page in Seller Center.

Condition ID 2010

Condition Name: Excellent - Refurbished

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: EXCELLENT_REFURBISHED

Description: The item is in like-new condition, backed by a one year warranty. It has been professionally refurbished, inspected, and cleaned to excellent condition by qualified sellers. The item includes original or new accessories and will come in new generic packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.

Note: Sellers must go through an application and qualification process to become eligible to list with the 'Excellent - Refurbished' item condition. Any seller that is interested in eligibility requirements should see the Certified refurbished program page in Seller Center. This particular item condition is also limited to a select number of eBay marketplaces and categories. See the Category and marketplace support section.

Condition ID 2020

Condition Name: Very Good - Refurbished

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: VERY_GOOD_REFURBISHED

Description: The item shows minimal wear and is backed by a one year warranty. It is fully functional and has been professionally refurbished, inspected, and cleaned to very good condition by qualified sellers. The item includes original or new accessories and will come in new generic packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.

Condition ID 2030

Condition Name: Good - Refurbished

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: GOOD_REFURBISHED

Description: The item shows moderate wear and is backed by a one year warranty. It is fully functional and has been professionally refurbished, inspected, and cleaned to good condition by qualified sellers. Condition ID 2500

Condition Name: Seller refurbished

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: SELLER_REFURBISHED

Description: The item is in like-new condition, backed by a one year warranty. It has been professionally refurbished, inspected and cleaned to excellent condition by qualified sellers. The item includes original or new accessories and will come in new generic packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.

Note: This item condition has been replaced by the 'Excellent - Refurbished', 'Very Good - Refurbished', and 'Good - Refurbished' item conditions in a select number of eBay marketplaces and categories. See the Category and marketplace support section.

Condition ID 2750

Condition Name: Like New

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: LIKE_NEW

Description: An item that looks as if it was just taken out of shrink wrap. No visible wear, and all facets of the item are flawless and intact. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

Note: For trading cards, the numeric identifier 2750 indicates that the trading card is graded.

Condition ID 3000

Condition Name: Used

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: USED_EXCELLENT

Description: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. Most categories support this condition (as long as condition is an applicable concept).

Condition ID 4000

Condition Name: Very Good

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: USED_VERY_GOOD

Description: An item that is used but still in very good condition. No obvious damage to the cover or jewel case. No missing or damaged pages or liner notes. The instructions (if applicable) are included in the box. May have very minimal identifying marks on the inside cover. Very minimal wear and tear.

Note: For trading cards, the numeric identifier 4000 indicates that the trading card is ungraded.

Condition ID 5000

Condition Name: Good

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: USED_GOOD

Description: An item in used but good condition. May have minor external damage including scuffs, scratches, or cracks but no holes or tears. For books, liner notes, or instructions, the majority of pages have minimal damage or markings and no missing pages.

Condition ID 6000

Condition Name: Acceptable

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: USED_ACCEPTABLE

Description: >An item with obvious or significant wear, but still operational. For books, liner notes, or instructions, the item may have some damage to the cover but the integrity is still intact. Instructions and/or box may be missing. For books, possible writing in margins, etc., but no missing pages or anything that would compromise the legibility or understanding of the text.

Condition ID 7000

Condition Name: For parts or not working

ConditionEnum for Inventory API: FOR_PARTS_OR_NOT_WORKING

Description: An item that does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. Supported in categories where parts or non-working items are of interest to people who repair or collect related items.

eBay Refurbished Program

The eBay Refurbished Program was introduced in 2020. With the first phase of this program, the 'Manufacturer Refurbished' item condition was replaced by the 'Certified Refurbished' item condition across all categories (that supported 'Manufacturer Refurbished') in multiple eBay marketplaces. With the second phase of this program, the 'Seller Refurbished' item condition (Condition ID 2500) is getting deprecated in some categories in multiple eBay marketplaces and being replaced by 'Excellent - Refurbished' (Condition ID 2010), 'Very Good - Refurbished' (Condition ID 2020), and 'Good - Refurbished' (Condition ID 2030).

For each of these four refurbished item conditions, sellers must apply and qualify to list with these item conditions in the supported eBay marketplaces and categories. The definitions of these refurbished item conditions can be found in the table above. Category and marketplace support for the eBay Refurbished Program

The 'Certified Refurbished' item condition is supported in all eBay marketplaces and categories that supported the now deprecated 'Manufacturer Refurbished' item condition.

As of September 2022, the 'Excellent - Refurbished', 'Very Good - Refurbished', and 'Good - Refurbished' item conditions have replaced the 'Seller Refurbished' item condition in the categories and marketplaces as indicated in the following table.

Using Metadata API to retrieve supported item conditions

The getItemConditionPolicies method of the Metadata API can be used to see which categories support the refurbished item conditions. Typically, the getItemConditionPolicies method requires an Application OAuth token, but to see if a seller is eligible to list with the 'Certified - Refurbished', 'Excellent - Refurbished', 'Very Good - Refurbished', or 'Good - Refurbished' item conditions, a User OAuth token must be used, and these item conditions will only be retrieved in the response if the seller is eligible to list with them.

Sellers that are not eligible to list with any of these item conditions will be blocked from listing, and they will have to retry their API call using an equivalent (but non-refurbished) condition.
